The Street Theatre, Canberra
|Client||ACT Community Services Directorate (CSD) / ACT Shared Services Procurement (SSP)|
|Timeframe||2012 - 2013|
|Role||Principal's Representative (Superintendent and Contract Administrator)|
One of Canberra's well known theatre and performance spaces, The Street Theatre is a multidisciplinary performance ideas house with a curated program of work created by professional and independent artists. It is located in Canberra City West, adjacent to the Australian National University and ACT Family Court.
In 2012 The Street Theatre undertook a program of extensions and improvements. An extension of approximately 1,000 m² over two floors provided space for a new, large high ceilinged rehearsal area, office, amenities, and box office, while improvements to the existing Theatre building included relocating the box office, the kitchen space and base services for the café, and upgrading waste services. In addition, minor external works to improve the site's amenity (removal of temporary accommodation, removal of creeper vine and landscaping and tree planting) were required. The design had the upper floor built to the base building level which allowed for a possible fitout in the future to populate the first floor space.
