Student Accommodation, University of Canberra
|Client|| Campus Living Villages, on behalf of
University of Canberra
|Timeframe||2008 - 2009|
In 2007 the University of Canberra announced Campus Living Villages were to build and operate new student residences on the south-western border of the campus. The project involved the construction of 507 residences on a green field site, with associated café, indoor common rooms and outdoor village green and barbeque communal areas, car parking and other amenities. The residences were built in 18 separate free standing three storey buildings to ensure the scale of the project remained domestic and residential.
The design featured passive solar design, cycle and walking paths to the university and local amenities, grey water recycling, and a wildlife corridor for native animals. The Green Star Guide to Building was followed to ensure delivery of ecological sustainable benefits.
