Stromlo Forest Park Recreation Facility Redevelopment
|Timeframe||2005 - 2008|
In January 2003 a devastating fire swept across Canberra, completely destroying the Stromlo Forest. The ACT Government Bushfire Recovery Taskforce recommended a world-class multi-use, recreational sporting facility be established and be available to both recreational and professional users. Stromlo Forest Park now boasts a one-of-a-kind community facility with exceptional infrastructure for a variety of users.
The development as a whole has received strong accolades from end users and international competitors and continues to be a key venue for marketing Canberra as a tourist destination and for events of international importance. The Park site also incorporates a bushfire memorial which was designed and developed with the close involvement of those affected by the bushfires who, working in consultation with local artists, contributed through sharing their personal experiences.
