Procurement for Capital Works Project, Australian Sports Commission
|Client||Australian Sports Commission|
The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is a statutory authority (Commonwealth Authorities and Companies Act) within the Department of Health and is the primary national sports and advisory agency. Part of the ASC’s responsibility is the management of the Australian Institute of Sport facilities.
The basketball and netball centre is utilised by high profile professional elite sportspersons that are striving to be, or are already, part of the Australian Boomers, Opals and Diamonds teams.
For the facility to continue to be considered a high-performance facility, the ASC has undertaken a number of upgrades in recent times, including replacement of the sprung floor.
To further support the facility as a high-quality basketball and netball centre, the replacement of various mechanical plant and replacement of the façade was deemed required which had not been replaced for over 30 years. The façade replacement was essential to ensure the asset was protected from external elements.
A key challenge of the project was to ensure the works were undertaken safely whilst maintaining access to the courts for various elite sporting groups.
