The ACT Government has embarked upon the Health Infrastructure Program (HIP), a program to overhaul and expand all aspects of the ACT Health Directorate systems as part of the single largest capital works project undertaken in the ACT Government’s history. The enhancements to the health system in both building and clinical systems were expected to be in excess of $1 billion. The HIP included redevelopment of the existing Canberra Hospital campus as well as new facilities at other locations around Canberra.
The challenge was to develop the risk management plans when the procurement processes for the projects had already commenced, meaning treating risks was in many cases urgent and required senior management attention.
