ANU Sports Star of the Year - Ben Freeman

ANU Sports Star of the Year - Ben Freeman

Ben, a part-time Xact employee was named ANU’s 2018 sports star of the year for completing the prestigious Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming. The Triple Crown, which is recognised as three of the hardest ocean swims in the world include; a solo crossing of the English Channel (34km). A solo crossing of the Catalina Channel in Los Angeles (33km) and a 46km circumnavigation of Manhattan Island in New York. Furthermore, in 2017 Ben won the Newport 2-mile Pier to Pier race in California against more than 300 other elite swimmers.

When asked what the award means to him, Ben said “To be recognised as Sports Star of the year from a potential candidate pool of over 25,000 students whom are all high achievers is very humbling, I am extremely honoured to receive this award”

As a company we are very proud of Ben’s achievements and how dedicated he is to open water swimming. Having such a rigorous and intense fitness regime is incredibly challenging both mentally and physically, so to be able to achieve so much at such a young age is really impressive! He fully deserves the ANU Sports Award and to be recognised for his incredible efforts and we are very happy for him.
