Australian Embassy, Washington DC, Property Analysis
|Client|| Overseas Property Office of the
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
|Value||Options to US$100 million|
The Australian Embassy to the United States of America (the Washington Chancery building) is located in the heart of Washington DC’s CBD, less than one kilometre from the White House and within the three kilometre radius occupied by the majority of international embassies.
The Chancery is a seven storey building providing office space, storage and basement car spaces. It was purpose built by the Australian Government in 1967, extended in 1977 and underwent a significant refurbished in 2000. Given the age and overall condition of the Chancery, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade engaged Xact to undertake an options analysis including an initial property market search, to determine how best to provide the future Chancery facilities in Washington. Numerous options were considered including refurbishment of the existing facilities, permanent relocation to a new leased or owned site and/or redevelopment on the existing site.
